About the book

Espionage“Sir Roland has invited us to visit for the Autumn Feast.”

“Do we have to go, Papa? I couldn’t feast with the most crooked politician in all of Briznom.”

As the daughter of a Briznomian vassal lord, Vannie Cumberland has spent her childhood immersed in the world of politics. Relations between Briznom and the neighboring country of Calhortz are strained due to the tyrannical rule of the strytes. A proposed alliance could calm relations between the two countries, but would come at the cost of Briznom’s freedom.

When her father’s political archenemy invites them to the Autumn Feast, Vannie uncovers an evil scheme endangering the life of someone close to her. Personal enmity comes to a dangerous head as Vannie struggles to expose the corruption and stop the alliance. Time is running out.

Events are becoming too big for her to handle. Will Sir Roland’s son help or will things finally spiral out of control?

Author Interview

Welcome to my blog, Morgan. Will you tell me a little bit about yourself?

Thanks for having me! I’m a 20-year-old Christian children’s book author, a librarian, a seamstress, and a violinist. I was homeschooled from kindergarten through 12th grade, and graduated two years ago. I’ve been involved in politics since I was eight years old, and am a part of the campaign team that sent Barry Loudermilk to congress. I’m a conservative and I love history, particularly American history, and those interests and beliefs always manage to make it into my books. I’m passionate about restoring America and turning the people back towards God, and that’s why I write what I write.

What inspired you to write Espionage?

Primarily a dream I had. Somehow, that dream gave me the storyline, title, characters, and cover, and when you get a package deal like that, you can’t ignore it. I also needed to explore Briznom and understand the political climate. It’s going to be important in book 3 of Time Captives, so I had to understand it properly before finishing the trilogy.

How does this book fit in with the Time Captives series?

It’s set in the same world at the same time. It takes place around the end of The Crossways and the beginning of Crannig Castle. The Time Captives and slaves aren’t going to be enough of an army to overthrow the strytes, and one of the first places they would think to ask for help would be the neighboring country of Briznom. None of that will happen until Crannig Castle, but Espionage does help to set up for it. Also, the Espionage characters will cross over into Time Captives in the last book. Crannig Castle can be read without Espionage (I tested that out on family members and beta readers), but Espionage helps things to make more sense.

What was the hardest part about writing this book?

They needed evidence against the bad guys. I had no clue how they were going to get it. I took a couple weeks to type in the story up to that point (since I’d written it on notebook paper), talked it over with my mom, and figured it out. It was a comparatively easy book to write.

What did you like best about writing this book?

Vannie and Kyle. Those two are some of my favorite characters. They’ve got such vibrant personalities, and they complement each other perfectly. I loved their interaction and the way their friendship develops. I can’t wait to write more about them. Which may be why random scenes involving them keep popping up on my computer.
