Author Interview-Exiles

Hi everyone. Today I have an interview with Jaye Knight, the author of the Ilyon Chronicles. First lets hear about the newest book that she just released.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00028]

About the Book

Exiled after their defeat in Samara, the Resistance struggles to find allies in their quest to restore King Balen to his throne and put an end to the emperor’s tyranny. When the crete people refuse to lend their aid, Balen leads a group to Dorland to reason with them and win their support. However, enemies prove to be everywhere, and they find themselves in a fight to keep Dorland from becoming Daican’s latest conquest.

Back in Landale, the arrival of a new enemy forces Trask and Anne to tread more carefully than ever. Tensions are rising, and the enemy is determined to test Anne’s loyalty and root out the location of Trask and the Resistance once and for all.

Feeling trapped within the walls of Valcré, Prince Daniel must contend with an ever-eroding relationship with his father. As their clashes escalate, the situation becomes potentially life threatening when his loyalty is called into question. His sister seems bent on branding him a traitor and actively seeking to condemn him to the fate of those put to death in their father’s new arena. Daniel is certain his father would never execute his only son and heir but, with other forces at work, it might not be that simple.

One small misstep could prove fatal for all.

Author Interview

Hi Jaye. Welcome to my blog. Will you please tell me a little bit about yourself?

I’m a nearly-thirty country girl, introvert, crazy cat lady (if you are to believe my brothers), and major history buff. I’m also a nerd. I love fandoms. I’m part of so many, and I’d never have it any other way.

What do you like best about writing?

Developing characters. Characters are my favorite part about fiction. As I write, I get to know all these people who didn’t exist before I started the story. They become my friends. Sounds crazy, I know, but fellow authors will understand.

What do you find is the hardest thing about writing?

Right now, it’s finding the time. It was so much easier when I was young and didn’t have so many responsibilities. Adulthood really takes away from that. There are so many things coming at you at once that you have to try to juggle. It’s not very conducive to writing sometimes.

What inspired you to write the Ilyon Chronicles?

Ilyon Chronicles came from reading DragonQuest by Donita K. Paul. When I discovered that my favorite character in the series was half-blooded, it sparked the initial inspiration for Jace. The entire series grew around him.

If you could only have one of your books published, which one would you choose? Why?

Oi, that’s a tough question, especially since almost everything I write is part of a series. I suppose, at this moment, I would choose . . . Samara’s Peril. That’s the main redemption book of Ilyon Chronicles, so probably the one with the most important message.

Swords of Time Cover Reveal

Hi everyone. Today I am revealing the cover for my new book which was designed by Perry Elisabeth Design. I don’t have a definite release date yet, but I am hoping it will be sometime in August.

About the book

Braden has one goal: knighthood.

Unfortunately, he lives on a horse farm in modern day America with his uncle, his younger brother, and an aunt who absolutely hates him.

Against all odds, Braden and his brother, Jamie, stumble across a pair of special swords that sweep them back into medieval times. They land near a castle whose lord has a task for them.

His older son is lost somewhere in time, and only someone who can control the Swords of Time can save him.

With the goal of knighthood suddenly in sight, Braden’s not sure he wants to leave, but he wishes to impress the lord. Can he protect his brother, find the lost heir, and fulfill his dreams, or will the lord’s younger son ruin everything?

And now for the cover…

About the book

all the way boook cover

Caroline and I walked out the back door and went into the barn.

“What are we going to do?” Caroline asked.

“Head out on our own. Saddle Whitey, please.”

Caroline’s mouth gaped open. “They’ll find us.”

“I know.”

Caroline sighed. “What can we do then?”

I shook my head. “We can stick together. Always.”

Tragedy stole everything from him … except her …

Three years ago, an illness orphaned Henry and Caroline Sullivan. The harsh years at the orphanage have forged a strong bond between the pair.

But Henry’s about to age out.

He must choose whether to leave his only family behind in relative safety, or take her with him as he pursues dreams of owning a farm. Henry trusts that God has a plan for him, but little does he know that others have plans for him and his younger sister as well. He will need all his faith to find the right path.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought the historical aspect was well done and the characters were well written. I grew to care about the characters. I always like it when authors write characters that I can care about. This is a great, well written book that I could hardly put down.

Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Note: 50% of the author’s income from this series will go to the World Orphans organization.

Savior, Like a Shepherd-Author Interview

HI everyone. Today I am participating in the blog tour for Faith Blum’s new book, Savior, Like a Shepherd. I had a lot of fun beta-reading this book.

slas-release-tour-banner

About the book

The ground shook and a rumble sounded through the air as the train squealed to a stop. Maybe, just maybe, I could carry someone’s bags without the porter taking notice. And then there was the even bigger maybe: Maybe I could get enough money to at least buy a crust of bread for Trevor and Tabitha to share.

I hid behind the boxes in the freight yard and kept one eye on the porter, and the other on the second class passenger car. The porter had his attention on the first class car, so I slipped into the gathering crowd.

Titus Hine has always taken care of others. First in protecting his brother and sister from the men his mother entertained. Even more so after her death, when the townspeople refused to help the orphans of a town prostitute. He’s been protector and provider, despite the hardships. He’s learned that no one will help, no one cares and if he wants to survive he’ll have to rely on his own strength not just for himself but his family as well.

Then a stranger shows him the kindness and help no one else seems willing to. Between her kindness and the lecture she gives the Christian Leaders, Titus’s life takes an unexpected turn for the better. With help and provision from the local believers things should be easier, his burdens are lifted. So why does it feel like life is spinning out of control?

Can Titus learn that while man may fail him there is One who will never fail? Can he learn to allow God to be the Shepherd of his life and lead him? Or will life continue to push him every which way?

Excerpt

excerpt-1

I hid behind the boxes in the freight yard and kept one eye on the porter, and the other on the second-class passenger car. The porter had his attention on the first-class car, so I slipped into the gathering crowd.

A pretty young woman stepped out of the second-class car, took a few quick steps out of the way, and then checked her pocket watch. I thought that rather odd. Why would she be more concerned about the time than if someone was there to meet her? And where was her escort? Surely she hadn’t traveled alone.

The time on the watch must have concerned her, because she hurried down to the baggage car and spoke with the porter. I edged closer and got there in time to hear her frustration.

“I don’t mean to be insistent, but I need to get on the next stagecoach and it leaves in less than an hour.”

“All right, I’ll find it. But you’d better find someone to carry the trunk for you.”

“Thank you, sir. You are a true gentleman.”

As she looked around and the porter turned back to the baggage car, I tugged on her sleeve lightly. “Did I hear that you need some help, ma’am?”

The lady smiled. “Yes, I do. Do you think you could carry my trunk to the stage office and show me the way there?”

I grinned. “Sure!” My face fell almost as quickly. “Well, it depends on how heavy the trunk is.”

She put a hand on my arm. “How about you try it once they find the trunk and if you can’t, you can help me find someone else.”

My grin returned. “Thank you, ma’am.”

“You can call me Miss Brown,” she said.

“Yes, Miss Brown.”

The porter came over with a trunk. “Here you are, Miss.” He saw me before I could duck out of sight. “Didn’t I tell you to stay away? We don’t need your kind around here. Now git!”

I started to skulk away when Miss Brown inserted herself between us. “I’ve hired this young man to carry my trunk for me. I’d appreciate it if you would leave him alone. If you don’t, I’ll take back my words from earlier about you being a gentleman.”

I peeked around Miss Brown in time to see the porter’s eyes look heavenward. “Whatever you say. I wouldn’t want a boy like him carrying my trunk.”

“Why not? He may not have the cleanest of clothing, but you likely know nothing about why his clothes aren’t clean. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to catch the stage.”

Author Interview

Hi Faith. Welcome to my blog. Will you please tell me a little bit about yourself?

Hi, Sarah! Thanks for having me. I am a 20-something author of multiple books in various genres. I love to write, read, play piano, knit, crochet, sew, watch movies, and play games with my family.  My goal in my writing is to encourage Christians in their walk with Christ.

What do you like best about writing?

It’s flexible. The way I do things, I can write when I have time, I can do other things like a Bible Study, organizing the VBS at our church, helping around the house, etc., but still have a fairly sustainable income. Granted, I live at home with my family, so that helps, but one of my goals with my writing is to keep being able to do it once I’m married and hopefully even have kids. I won’t be able to do as much once those things happen, but the books I have published and will publish in the future will also be able to bring in a supplementary income, Lord willing. The flexibility is great!

What do you find is the hardest thing about writing?

Editing and researching. I know, that’s two things. Sorry. I have a hard time doing research because it’s really hard to find accurate information about the time period in the subjects I need them in. And editing after a while gets rather tiresome, especially when all I want to do is chuck the manuscript against the wall, let it scatter around the room and go do some “real” writing.

What inspired you to write Savior Like a Shepherd?

One of my novellas. Seriously. I wrote a novella about a young lady who becomes a mail order bride and on her way to meet her husband, she comes in contact with Titus. Titus is a twelve-year-old orphan who is trying to take care of his brother and sister but is disadvantaged by the fact that he and his siblings were born illegitimately to a lady of the night. Adelaide does what she can, but I wanted to explore his story more and see what happened to him after she left.

If you could only have one of your books published, which one would you choose? Why?

You cruel, cruel person! Only one? You do realize that for a single person who is also an author, making someone choose only one book is almost as bad as asking a parent to choose just one child. *sigh* Okay, I’ll try. I think I would say Blessed Assurance (the novella that inspired Savior, Like a Shepherd) because it has so many facets of lots of things. And it’s one of my favorite stories and has my favorite couple in it. It’s a mystery, love story/romance, and I think it is one of my better written works to date. But that’s just my opinion. You’ll have to read it and decide for yourself. 😉

Orphans of the West Cover Reveal

Hi everyone. Today I am revealing one of the covers from the “Orphans of the West” series written by Faith Blum. I got to beta-read one of them and really enjoyed it! But first, let’s hear about the series.

faith-cover-reveal

About the Series

Genre: Christian Western Coming of Age

Logline: Through God’s leading, four orphans grow up to be important members of their communities.

The Orphans of the West series is a continuation of the stories of 4 orphans that were introduced in either a Hymns of the West novel or novella and goes through each orphans life.

Savior, Like a Shepherd is about Titus Hine who was introduced in Blessed Assurance (Hymns of the West Novellas #6) and how he must take care of his sister and brother as winter approaches, all while not being allowed to work anywhere.

All the Way is about Henry Salisbury, the only orphan in the series not directly introduced in a previous book, but it has other characters you will recognize from the books about the Brookings family.

He Hideth My Soul is also attached to the Brookings family and Otis Miller as Otis finds out that his grandfather left him a large inheritance and he can finally follow his dream.

He Leadeth Me takes up Gage Wilhelm’s story. Gage was introduced in I Love Thee (Hymns of the West Novellas #1) and tells how he is given the deed to his farm and told to go back to his farm. Gage gladly accepts only to have someone show up claiming his long-dead father owed another man a large sum of money and now there’s 10 years of interest added on.

Hi everyone. Today I am participating in a cover reveal for Morgan Huneke’s book Crannig Castle. The rest of the participants are listed here.

About the book

crannig-castle-something

God, please look after Adriel. Keep him safe and keep him from acting foolish. And please help him to be able to find me.

Rae knew she could trust God to look after both of them. It was all she had now.

The Time Captives have been reunited. The rightful king has been freed. Now all that remains is to defeat the strytes who still hold a tyrannical rule over the people of Calhortz. But with their lack of soldiers, it’s a task that is easier said than done. They need allies, but are they worth it when it requires facing ghosts from their pasts?

Returning to his home country only brings the loss of Adriel’s family to the forefront of his mind. His determination to find Rae has never ceased, but now that determination could potentially destroy all that he and the Time Captives have been working towards. And his new-found faith may not be able to withstand the challenge.

Will they be able to set aside their personal struggles for the sake of the freedom of all or will they allow their pasts to consume them? Will they manage to win back Crannig Castle from the rule of the strytes? The fate of Calhortz hangs in the balance.

Crannig Castle is the final book of the Time Captives trilogy, a tale of faith, family, fantasy, and a fight for truth and freedom.
